Panic39's Strictly Business + Random Ass Night!

I just got home a few minutes ago and man...what a random day it was hahaahaha.
I woke up around 9 am and went to work...taught and whatnot...then left around 1:30.
Got home at about 2 and then Gary picked me up because my sister took the car.
So Gary and I head over to "Strictly Business" over in Eagle Rock...same place where New Kids 4 was...literally like 5-10 minutes away from my house.
Anyway by the time we get there the jam is still pretty empty...and pretty much stays that way as the time went by. Of course a few more people showed...but the place wasn't packed. We met up with Jon, Pej, other peeps.
So we stretch out, warm up a little bit, and later on we tried to think of a few routines or commandos outside. Actually came up with two! haha and they weren't that bad!
Jon, Gary, and I battled under "Zombie Hunterz" and we went up against muhfuckin' Soul Control first round. That shit was fuuuun, definitely a good battle.
Since only 14 crews entered the judges decided to pick a top 8 but when the prelims were finished the MC announced that only a top 4 would be chosen. -__-;;
WTF!? What kinda jam...is this...14 crews and you only choose 4 crews out of those? Don't even say, "OH MAYBE THEY WERE RUNNING OUT OF TIME FOR THE VENUE!" No...NO! It was only friggin' 6:30 by the time the preliminaries were finished! So don't even get to me on that.
So they announce the four crews and waddya know the announcer says, "Next up we need Zombie Hunterz vs. Knucklehead Zoo." ??? Confusion hit me as straight as an arrow shot into the sun. This MC must be high off his ass cause he has no idea what the hell he's talking about! So now they were doing a Top 8 again..i had no idea why they kept switching it around...
So we battle Knucklehead Zoo...the MC says, "2 rounds a piece!" ... Okay so I figure he means we each get two turns. So I throw a weaker set first to save my shit for my second round. But wouldn't you know it by the time we finish our first rounds the announcer asks the judges to choose the winner. ??? once again confusion! This motherfucker has no idea what he's doing! 2 rounds a piece...what the hell else could that mean other than each person gets two rounds...
So! I was disappointed in myself because if I had known the battle was going to be 1 round each person...I'd of thrown out a better and stronger round...GODDAMMIT! So I was not happy with our second battle but s'all good.
I was still happy we made it to Top 8 and for battling a crew like Soul Control...I felt we repped that shit hard...even if my steps were a little stuttery >.< Hopefully there will be footage soon.
Another con of the jam was the DJ...he literally played the same records over and over for different battles...I could've sworn I heard "It's just begun" like 3 times!
Get some new records!!!
I honestly don't mean no disrespect, it is really hard to throw an event but you have to think about the people who pay and try to support the scene...don't make false calls!
Anyway other than that it was coo to see a few familiar faces and whatnot. Nica came! It was good seeing her again and we met her friend Angel...who turned out to be J-Mal's cousin!!! Hahahaha so random!!!
Speaking of which, the rest of the whole night was really random but enjoyable nonetheless!
Noodle World is now the official after spot for b-boys to go to after a jam lol.
I'm dead tired.
Till next time.

Late.

P.S. Stay posted! Don't think I forgot about my badass list! The next one is coming up!!!

My birthday, Emily's birthday + Disneyland!, and 2 years!

Man oh man..what a weekend and I mean that in a good way.

- SATURDAY - 1-17-09
I woke up as a 20 year old at about 9 am and went on to work in the morning. I taught and left around 1ish with my sister. We went to go get some Yogurtland first and made our way to the Los Angeles Gun Club.
We made our way to the shooting range and met up with Ben, Ruben, Gary, my sister's boyfriend David, and my cousin Dito.
I was pretty excited because I've never shot a gun before so this was a new experience for me.
The worker gave us a quick introduction on how to load and shoot and from there on it was on!!!
At first I was a bit more nervous but after the first shot, you get used to it fast and easy. It was pretty dope and really fun! I shot a 9mm Beretta and a HK USP...fuckin' trigger happy with those. Later on Tony, Justin, Socheat, and Nikki came and shot up some sheeeit. Ima def go again so whoever's down let me know!

Moving along we went back to my pad and my mom had everything set up pretty much. It was chill, we just ate some sandwiches, corndogs, drank some of this and some of that. More people came as time went by and it was just a kickback. I was happy to be with friends, family, and my lovely ladyfriend ^_^
I thank everyone who came and also gave me a gift.

Some pics..

I guess I can cross shooting range off my "Things to do in 2009" list.

- SUNDAY - 1-18-09
The following day, I was supposed to wake up at 8 am but instead I woke up around 9..either my alarm didn't go off or I needed another hour to rest because last night I went to sleep at about 4 am haha.
Got ready and drove over to Emily's house.
Got to her house and picked her up.
Saw her mom for a brief moment...
"Thank you for taking Emily to Irvine."
Me: Oh you're welcome, it's no problem.
"So...are you Chinese?"
Me: Oh no..I'm Korean.
"Oh..Korean." *walks away*
Hahaha anyway moving along, Emily and I drove back to Irvine to drop off her stuff and then we finally made our way to the land of Disney! haha
It was pretty crowded but s'all good. Emily got in for free cause it was her birthday..lucky her >.<
It was fun although some of the rides were unavailable...Haunted Mansion, It's a Small World, and Splash Mountain. Somewhat of a bummer but it was still fun riding all the other rides. I still haven't ridden It's A Small World yet since I was like 5 years old..every time I go it's always under construction or something buuut oh well.
Another bummer would have to be the fireworks show!!! It got canceled due to "unusual wind conditions"..son of a bitch!!! We had really good seats too! Haha but overall it was still a fun and tiring day haha.
Happy to spend it with the mrs. ^____^
Drove back to Irvine and went to shreeeep.

I suppose I can cross Disneyland off my "Things to Do in 2009" as well.

- MONDAY - 1-19-09
Can you believe how fast 2 years go by? This morning I woke up to the most beautiful face I could imagine...the mirror...JUST KIDDING! Of course my lovely ladyfriend!!!
Unfortunately we couldn't spend the whoooole day together because she had stuff to do so we went out to lunch and got some yogurtland...again haha.
And out of nowhere guess who I see...motherfucking ABE! haha so random!!!
Then I dropped off Emily at school and made my way back to LA...pretty smooth ride.
And home here I am.

I had a great weekend and hope everyone did as well.
Till next time..stay up everybody! Back to work tomorrow.
Oh yeah...DON'T SCREW UP OBAMA! haha

Later.

NKOTB 4

So yesterday was my homie Nes' event: New Kids on the Block 4.
Basic premise of the event: 16 upcoming/unknown crews are selected and battle it out for the title of the New Kids on the Block...pretty simple eh?
This is the 4th event thrown in a row..it's grown a lot since the first one at Jayvee four years ago.
I woke up around 9 am and went to work. The night before I went to sleep at about 4 am because of a last minute late night session that went from 12 am to 3 am...I was fuuuuckin' tired but up I got and went to work.
I decided to leave work early so that way I would be ready on time to head over to the jam. So I drove back home around 11ish and by the time I got home...I was still really tired so I took a quick nap.
Woke up around 12:30ish and ate a small lunch(4 taquitos) and got dropped off at the venue which is like 10 minutes away from my house.
Met up with Nes and a few others. Helped set up a little bit but mainly tried to warm up and stretch even though the jam hadn't even started yet haha.
More people came as time went by and the place became pretty packed.
I was again entering the New Kid crew battles even though earlier I told myself I wouldn't but a few of my friends convinced me to do so since they needed more people and we were in the same crew so I agreed. We entered as our combined crew name: Bukakke Kings, reppin' that shit son! Haha but yeah it's mainly members coming from Zombie Hunterz and TAC - LA/France, been fam since the beginning.
Now before the jam, it was really difficult for us to get together and practice as one crew. Each of us had our own reasons: work, school, etc. So we did the best we could trying to come up with routines and what not..some members actually learned the routines the day of the event sooo as you could tell I was feeling kind of iffy about our performances that night.
Nes posted the battle lineup online before the event so everyone could see who they were battling...I honestly don't know why buuut whatever. We were up first against Chosen Few...and I really don't know if I should go any deeper into this subject.
All I gotta say is...biters...and even if it was a joke or something...the shit wasn't funny and it definitely wasn't cool.

Watch it for yourself.
I think this is big example why battle lineups shouldn't be posted ahead of time.
So anyway we beat Chosen Few and by we I mean my crew, I didn't even bother to go in because my crew handled that shit and went on the next round battling Arigatou Crew.
This was actually a fun battle. Each crew had good exchanges and this battle had a positive vibe unlike our first battle. Nobody pushed us for one thing nor bit any of our routines so yeah it was coo. Much RESPECT to Arigatou. *bows*
So we made it semi-finals against Squishydocious and again this was fun battle as well. I was happy I hit my shit and didn't crash haha. I felt I was on point that night and I was glad because before I felt like I wasn't ready.
In the end we lost but to be honest I don't really care because we had fun and all of us did really well. If there was an award for best/funniest/ORIGINAL AND NOT BITING routines I think we would take it lol. Squishy actually took the whole event so props to them.
All in all it was a pretty good jam, wasn't too slow and the vibe was fresh. It was dope seeing people I hadn't seen in a while.
The exhibition battles were good too. I'm glad to see 9 O'Clock alive and well, I actually hadn't heard anything from them since they won New Kids 2 but I'm glad they're still sick with it and pulled through during their exhibition battle. I was rooting for them the whole way through.
Miracles vs. Smurf..fuckin' nasty. Although the battle went by pretty fast, seeing these two guys go at it has been something I've been longing for, for a while. Good energy from both cats.

See for yourself.
Anyway after the jam helped clean up and move stuff. Then went on to go eat with some friends and finally went home. What an exhausting day..it really was. Didn't sleep till 5 am...pretty ridiculous huh?
I think the only complaint I have about the jam is the "New Kid" crews..a lot of the crews were recycled from the past events..it's hard to call it New Kids on the Block when many of the crews had established and known b-boys on their team.
I would honestly put New Kids on hiatus just to let real new kid crews emerge and then take their shot because every year it seems like the same people are battling each other. It's either they change the name or combine crews and yes even we are guilty of this but are we known/established b-boys? No. I've never traveled to France..I haven't even won a jam yet haha. So I think we were in the right but things like recruiting LAB/Pho Bangers into the team is...for lack of a better word...cheating.
I've got the utmost respect for LAB, Pho Bangers and every other crew out there except Chosen Few...sorry to say but New Kids is an event for...New Kids...quite simply put. But whatever, it's not my event and it is quite hard to regulate who's on who's team but that's just my input.
I also think this is going to be my last time battling in the New Kid crew battles because I've been battling in them since the first New Kids so I think I've done my deed haha. Even though I've never won New Kids, I think it's time to move on and let the real new kids move in.
Anyhoo another pro at the jam is that we got interviewed for some guy's documentary he needs to use for his portfolio. It was pretty dope to give my input on B-boyin' and what it means to me...even if it sounds cliche but saying those words actually did remind me why I danced..not to win but to have fun and do my best.

Outside getting interviewed

Jon rockin' the red pants!

Mee Shell! Coming all the way from France!!!

Gary wearing the red pants!

Us in the VIP room...getting hyped.

More hype..

We started breaking things.

But we kept our composure

Hmmm anything else to add....Furious Soldiers should have won the 2 on 2's..no tie breaker needed but then again what do I know.

Emily Ma rocks.

-EDIT-

Quarter Finals - Arigatou Crew vs. Bukakke Kings

Semi Finals - Squishydocious vs. Bukakke Kings (Our first routine is missing)

Enjoy!
